Love this!! The first "record" I ever owned was found in the basement of my childhood home when we moved in. It was Del Shannon's "Runaway" and I played it until it snap crackled and popped it's way into the garbage. I wish I still had it. I made my mom save all her old records.
My husband and I have talked about how stereos used to be major pieces of furniture. I do remember sitting and listening to music. I have started a vintage blog dealing with music but haven;t worked on it much. You can access it through my blog address. I love your posts.
Somewhat out of context, but Wim Wenders had a thing for gadgets in his 70s movies, in one the guys have one of those record players in the van they're driving around in. Blew my mind because I hadn't seen one before (watched it before I was on the internet).
Oh my word! I had those plastic gadgets for playing records. I had no idea some cars once had built in record players. That 3 in 1 console is a gorgeous piece of furniture, isn't it.
In cars? Ha! Better hope it was a smooth ride! :)
ReplyDeleteOne thing I had forgotten about is how you could stack the records for continued play! Fun memories. ♥

ReplyDeleteGosh, $500! That could have been more than a family made in a month. Now electronics are almost disposable.
