Woolworth's
Good Morning. One of my favorite memories growing up were when my Dad would take us over to Grandma's on a Saturday morning and we would stop at Woolworth's and get a Hot Dog & Soda at the Food Counter. I loved it. Also a little fact about Woolworth's is that is was the 1st Store in America that would allow the Customers to browse through the merchandise and not have to give the Clerk a list behind a counter. All stores had a Clerk that you would tell what you wanted, they would then gather everything behind the counter and bag it for you.

Judgement
This morning I posted 2 pics on Retro Wifey Facebook Page. One was of Jessica Hahn when she did Playboy and that picture started a debate about pornography. It was never my intention to "promote" pornography, as was implied that I did. I would like to explain a few things about myself. Before I posted the pictures I was already thinking about some ideas I wanted to Blog about today. With this happening it only made me want to even more.
I was raised in a "Pentecostal Church" and anyone familiar with Church will know that they are very charismatic and strict. I was raised to be a VERY judgemental person. I am not proud of that and it poured over into my adult life. I will admit, Retro Wifey judged everyone. It was something that I looked at as me having high standards. I thought that if I don't agree with drinking, smoking, cussing, and anything else that must mean that I am the better person, right? WRONG. When you are raised in Church and taught to believe things that are not always right you will become a narrow minded person. I was that. I do believe that with age comes wisdom and through the years I have become more open minded. I have more tolerance and try not to judge anyone. Of course when it comes to my kids thats a hard one.
I am saying all this because it just so happens that today when I posted that Jessica Hahn picture a poster said that they thought I had higher standards, that hurt. I pride myself in my standards. I am an honest person. Love my family. Homeschool my kids. Teach them to be honest, loving and tolerant people. I am accepting and am no longer that narrow minded person who I feel I was "taught" in Church to be. I love God. I feel that judgement is reserved for him, not us. I think that some people get so caught up on their high horse and feel like its their place to judge everyone and they are the very people who need to be knocked down a few pegs.
I know the scripture and there is one that some people need to remember, and that is Matthew 7:5 and it says "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."
What that means is before you go judging and assuming you know something about someone you first need to examine your own life. If we all lived by that scripture the World would be a better place.
I know some people think "its just Facebook, don't worry & get over it" however I do. I love being able to interact with everyone, share memories and pictures and hate that anyone would think less of my character. The thing is, not all History is good! People need to remember there are so many things that are horrible and I am so glad they are in the past but that doesn't mean its forgotten. If we forget things how will ever move forward? If we have forgotten where we have come from, how will we ever appreciate where we are?
I guess my lesson learned today is, I am so thankful that I am not that judgemental person I used to be. I am glad that God still loves me regardless of my sins and faults and that my character, or lack of, isn't defined by a picture as some suggested.
Thank you for reading, it truly means a lot to me that any of you take time out of your day to read what I have to say xoxoxo

Yummy. I still love this stuff! I like to switch it up with Hamburger and Shredded Cheese. Its called Cheeseburger pie. Its really good. You can use anything you like and they are fool proof.
My kids love these crackers!
Popular Soda when I was growing up. Equivalent to about 3 cups of coffee!
Dr. Pepper Cake. Grandma made these. LOVE it, still do. I can't wait to make.
I LOVE these cupcakes. They look so yummy. I have to make these for my kids. Simplicity at its finest.
School lunches were always the best!! Bologna and Cheese was my favorite. LOVED them and still do.
Easy Jell-o Jigglers for kids, and adults!
My kids LOVE when I make these. All you need is the silicone molds and jell-o. Cut the Jell-o recipe in half because that will make them a mix between Jell-o and a Gummy. Kids love them and its a great little treat!!

Cast Iron Fried Chicken
A lot of people have requested my recipe for my Fried Chicken. I do not have a fancy recipe, its fairly easy and it may take a few times to get it down right. I was notorious for not being able to Fry Chicken properly, I finally mastered it and my Husband has been super happy ever since! So basically you need to get yourself a good Cast Iron Skillet. They are pretty inexpensive and you can make so many different things in them. Nothing taste as good as it does in Cast Iron then Chicken!
So once you get your Skillet you need to make sure you have plain Crisco. Get Flour and Italian Bread Crumbs and mix half and half in a big bowl. Get another bowl and take about 3 eggs and whip them up with a dash of Tabasco Sauce, few TBSP of Milk and a dash of Salt and Pepper. While the oil is heating in the Skillet dip your Chicken in the Egg mixture a few times then transfer to the bowl of Flour mixture the repeat 2 times, this will give it thicker skin and crust on the Chicken. Shake any excess Flour off then gently place in Skillet. I usually cook on each side of Chicken about 10 min. You really need to keep an eye, when the juices run clear then its done but I do 10 min per side. Of course if you are cooking bigger pieces like the Breast, you will need to probably fry a little longer. You could buy a meat thermometer too and check that its 170. I have one but usually I can just tell by eyeballing the Chicken.
I always let my Chicken drain on brown paper bags. It soaks the oil up the best!! It may take a few times to get the hang of it. I always overcooked my Chicken because I was afraid it wouldn't be done so it would be so dry! Thank goodness I have figured it out now. Also, you can turn the oven on 350 and if you are unsure the Chicken is done I have popped it in there for about 10 minutes and it taste just as good and does not dry out at all!! Enjoy, let me know if you try it. I would love to hear feedback!!

My new table!!
My hubby is so sweet, he was looking through Craigslist and found this table. He knows I LOVE Vintage and Retro things and have always wanted one of these tables but they cost a lot of money.
Well, he found this one that was a Police Officers Table, he bought it at an Antique Store for $300 and wasn't using it no longer and just wanted to get rid of it. He wanted to sell it for $60!! My husband seen it and called and went and got it for me. I am so happy!! Its in our Kitchen and our other table is in the Dining Room, I am one happy Wifey!

Thrift Store Finds
These lovely Canisters are my $6 Thrift Store find. I just love the Strawberries on the vines, so 1970ish.
I LOVE Books, I will scour every Thrift Store in town just to look through them. To me they are like little hidden treasures that one day will be extinct with all the E-Readers, Kindle, Nook and Computers. I try to hold on to all my books and refuse to get rid of them.
Totally in LOVE with these Vintage small Glasses. So cute.
